The first day of the rest of Kingston Philharmonia's life, post-Lev, has now arrived.
We hope that the impetus of our SJSS concert — as always, a resounding succès d'estime — will
inspire members to continue to support the orchestra during this transition period,
where we will have auditioned eight excellent candidates to fill the void.
Rehearsals started on Friday 12th April.
The first four sessions were devoted to conductor auditions.
Two candidates conducted us in each session; the results will be announced soon.
We are now rehearsing for the July 2013 concert. It will be conducted by Peter Fender,
who stood in for Lev in the 22nd March rehearsal.
Programme as on the home page
Lev's metronome markings for Elgar Symphony No 1
1st Movement
Andante. Crotchet = 72
Allegro: minim =104, but more like 96 I think
Figure 18: minim = 72
Figure 19: minim = 84
After figure 24, tempo I, minim = 96, accelerating to 120 at 27
Then back to 96 at 28
Then 72 at 29
Figure 31, minim = 84
Tempo I at 32, minim = 96
Figure 48, minim = 84
Figure 53, minim = 72
2nd Movement
Minim = 69, so crotchet = 138
3rd Movement
Quaver = 50
4th Movement
Beginning, crotchet = 58
After 111, minim = 84, but realistically more like 72-76
Usual rehearsal venue is St Nicholas Church Hall, Summer Road, Thames Ditton
KT7 0QQ (5 minutes walk from Thames Ditton station) unless otherwise indicated.
Rehearsals are from 19:30 (for 19:45 start) to 22:00.
If arriving by train, then the train leaving Waterloo at 19:06 and arriving at Thames Ditton at 19:39 is just about acceptable (it will take you 5 minutes at a brisk walk).
Note that the post code is located on the wrong side of Summer Road — and we are in the Church Hall, not the Church.
Scroll to the bottom of this page for a picture; Thames Ditton station is bottom left, Church Hall is under the Alto Clef near the top right.
Coming from the station, you should go down Speer Road, then turn right into Church Walk, and keep left when you get to Ashley Road after 50 yards.
Turn left when you get to Church Lane.
If driving, approach from the Summer Road side; there is a car park in front of the hall.
Please send an email to kpoadmin@gmail.com
if you can't make a rehearsal.

Dan's pictures from (mainly) Italy on his 70th birthday celebration are in the links section. And thanks to Susannah for producing the cake!!
Because timing is everything with Britten and Eroica, especially the 2nd and 3rd movements respectively, we have uploaded MP3 versions of these movements so you can practice alongside.
Simply listening repeatedly to the music and following it in your part is itself a good form of mental practice.
To download to your computer after you have clicked on a link, right-click and choose "save as". You can then cut a CD.
Bowed viola parts of the Britten and Lloyd can be downloaded from the download section.
There is an excellent YouTube recording of the Eroica (Barenboim with the East-West Divan Orchestra).
There is also a complete recording of the Britten by Vengerov.
Clare's recommended performance by Janine Jansen unfortunately only comes in bits.
Follow the links on the right.
As we have so few rehearsals for this concert, and a short rehearsal on the day, familiarity with the music will be absolutely paramount, as well as punctual attendance. Thanks.
